National Day Nurseries Association - NDNA

In September 2023, The Wendy House joined the very limited number of nurseries in the UK to be awarded the Quality Counts Platinum Award. This is a significant achievement, resulting from twelve months of extensive hard work and dedication from all of the team at the nursery.  The National Day Nursery Association (NDNA) only makes this award in recognition of the high standard of childcare and education offered by a nursery setting. We are, justifiably, immensely proud of this award.

NDNA Platinum Award Presentation –  On Friday 8th May we celebrated this achievement with a garden party for the children, parents and staff. We were delighted that the Mayor of Havering, Stephanie Nunn was able to join us and officially present the Award to our Nursery Manager, Laura. This Award sets the path forward for us to continue reflecting and reviewing our practice to ensure that we offer the best quality childcare and early years education.

What is the Quality Counts Platinum Award?

Quality Counts is a registered certification mark from the NDNA. It identifies nurseries that offer a consistently high quality of childcare within their framework. The standards within this framework include leadership practices, staff capabilities in addition to activities, environments and the health and wellbeing of children.

There are two levels of ‘Quality Counts’, Platinum being the highest award. This is only granted if the onsite assessor’s report identifies that practices within the NDNA framework are well established within a setting.

The award is valid for three years. Essentially, this is a quality improvement scheme for nurseries that want to reflect, review and improve their setting on an ongoing basis. It demonstrates an absolute commitment to quality childcare.

What are they saying about The Wendy House?

On receipt of this award, a full copy of our assessor’s report was issued and this is available to read at the nursery. Parents continuing support and feedback over the past twelve months has been crucial as we worked toward this award.

“The nursery is extremely child focused. Each room is laid out, so it is inviting and engaging with provocations for learning”.

 “Staff undertake observations, assessment and planning and have an excellent knowledge of their key children and this forms a dialogue with parents”.

The team work effectively together, supporting each other. The environment is set up to engage children. There are a wide variety of resources, activities and experiences provided both inside and out”

“Staff work closely with parents and provide them useful information as well as working with them and other professionals to support children’s individual needs”.

“Staff know their children well. They are able to discuss and demonstrate how they use the ‘famly’ app for observation, assessment and planning and how this information is shared with parents”.

"The nursery has contact with a variety of professionals, local organisations and attends forums run by the local authority to keep up to date with local and national issues”.

“The staff have warm and caring relationships with the children, demonstrating they value and respect them”.

Looking ahead to 2024

We feel that this achievement deserves some recognition within the local community and we are busy planning a celebration and official award presentation by the mayor of Romford early in the New Year. Staff will keep everyone updated on this along with a date when this has been scheduled.
