Early Years Foundation Stage

‘Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential ………. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right’

In 2006 the Government passed the Childcare Act with the aim of providing a national standard of early years education for all children in England. Subsequently, this law introduced the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) in 2008, creating one easily accessible piece of guidance on childcare for 0–5-year-olds. This has been updated in subsequent years, with the most recent implemented in September 2021.

It stipulates that all nurseries must follow the Early Years Foundation Stage, the framework of which:

As a long-standing childcare provider, our team at The Wendy House have been following the EYFS since its inception. We fully recognise the importance of these early years in a child’s life and work closely within the Framework to ensure that each child is recognised as an individual and our daily routine is tailored to their developing needs and progress.

We also believe that parents should be fully aware of the EYFS and how this is implemented at The Wendy House.

From our youngest group of children at the nursery, right through to pre-schoolers, we aim to:-

For our youngest group of children, their daily routine is heavily focussed on learning through play. Great care is taken in responding to each child’s emerging needs through warm, positive interactions, set in a secure, home from home setting. We believe these form a firm foundation for future learning and development.

As children transition through the nursery, they will continue to progress in a more structured environment. The daily routine will start to combine adult led learning, creative activities and more challenging tasks which will encourage them to be more independent and confident, while developing their own unique skills. This is a significant help in preparing children for more formal learning at school.
