Information about Funding

Tax Free Childcare

Working parents may be eligible to claim up to £500 every 3 months (up to £2,000 a year) per child, to help with the cost of childcare.  Follow the link https://www.gov.uk/tax-free-childcare for further information.

www.childcarechoices.gov.uk is a valuable HM Government resource that helps parents determine their entitlement to nursery funding.

In simple terms:-

Government funding is intended to cover the cost to deliver 15 or 30 hours a week of free, high-quality, flexible childcare. It is not intended to cover the cost of meals, consumables, additional hours or additional services.  The Provider can charge for meals and snacks as part of a free entitlement place and they can also charge for consumables such as nappies or sun cream and for services such as trips.  Leave funding details for 3-year-olds in place.

15 Hours of Funding per week for all 3-4 year olds (providing that they are registered with an approved childcare provider).

Funding stops when the child commences school in reception class (or reaches compulsory school age, if later)

30 Hours of Funding for 3-4 year olds – for parent/s who are:

in work – or getting parental leave, sick leave or annual leave

each earning at least the National Minimum Wage or Living Wage for 16 hours a week – this is £125.28 if they are over 25

This earnings limit does not apply if parent/s are self-employed and started a business less than 12 months ago.
